Mike Collins Gets First Win as Huskies Baseball Coach

NEWPORT NEWS, VA--The Bloomsburg University baseball team picked up its first win for new coach Mike Collins on Friday with a 13-7 win over Lock Haven University at the Builders Tournament in Newport News, VA. There was no result available on the Huskies late game with East Stroudsburg.

In game, the Huskies jumped out to a 5-0 through five innings with Rich Letts (Parkesburg/Octorara) and Kevin Ward (Upper Darby/Msg. Bonner) getting RBI hits. Lock Haven then tied the game up at 5-5 with a run in the sixth and four in the top of the seventh.

In the bottom of the seventh, the Huskies went back in front for good with five runs. The big hit in the inning was a three-run homer from Andy Bucher (Littlestown/Littlestown) with two outs to make it a 10-5 game.

Lock Haven make it 10-6 with a run in the top half of the eighth inning before Bloomsburg put the game out of reach with three in the home half of the inning. The big blow in the inning was a two-run triple from Rob Watlock (Plains/Coughlin). In the game, Watlock, who went 3-4 in the game with three runs scored, also earned the win with an inning of relief work.

Bloomsburg, 1-0, will face Kutztown University Saturday night at 6 p.m.
